Onur Air, with its fleet of 26 planes, has flights throughout Turkey. So far, 38 million passengers have traveled with Onur Air and now the company flies to 13 domestic airports and 81 international destinations.

In its internal flight operations, initiated only two years ago, Onur Air aimed to distinguish itself by providing high quality and timely services to its clients. Booking and ticket selling points were to be the hallmark of their operations and Can Azun, Onur Air Data Processing Manager, implemented the Electronic Check-in Project to enable clients to get their seats in a minimum period of time after arrival in the airport.

"Check-in operations are performed on the ticket selling system, as soon as the passenger presents his/her Onur Air ticket and the boarding card and luggage label are printed by Toshiba B430 and SA4 model printers. All that passengers have left to do at boarding, is to have the barcode on the boarding card scanned by PSC Falcon 4220 RF terminals. In this way, the system is continuously updated in real time durino the boarding process. This allows passenger monitoring as their luggage is transferred to the distribution area via luggage conveyor.

In the distribution area, baggage handlers scan the barcodes on the luggage labels with the Falcon RF temrinals and load the bags onto the appropriate luggage vehicles, which minimizes luggage distribution errors."

Mr. Azun says "This system enables passengers to have access to the gates leading to their plane and to be seated as soon as the flight card is introduced into the system, without any difficulty whatsoever. In our search for an effective system, we chose the Boer company and appreciated their experience and their approach to the solution. The company has great expertise in printing and scanning technology."

The Electronic Check-in Project was first initiated at the Istanbul terminal and has also been implemented in Antalya. Mr. Azun says the system will be installed in 11 different points including Izmir, Adana and Trabzon.
Onur Erduran, GEO of Boer Electronik reports that it took only 7 months to design and implement the system in Istanbul with a go-live which took only two days to tune the system and train the staff. The system is installed at 18 counters in the Istanbul terminal.

Mr. Azun adds "The people were in line before introducing these innovative systems. The flight cards were issued manually and the controls were performed one by one. The automation introduced with this system eliminates the awkward procedures of check in systems. Thus, we are able to provide high quality service to our clients. The time required for obtaining flight card and executing the luggage procedures has been rendered more efficient. These proceedings are completed in 40 to 50 seconds, whereas before it took about 5-6 minutes. This releases our clients from the burden of staying in queues and allows them to go to any check-in counter they wish.”
